Honest Opinion

I realize that SFU MUN has been over for a number of days now, and our minds are already elsewhere and disinterested in this blog. For those though who have a bit of nostalgia left after what seemed like a too quick three days, I couldn't resist throwing this out into the blogosphere.

As my first time attending a MUN conference I’d just like to say it was an amazing learning experience, and I am sure even the most veteran of munsters continue to learn. The combination of high school students, graduate students, science majors, engineering majors, and those polisci and is/ir people, made for an interesting dynamic. I wish everyone who took part in this diverse conference the best of luck!

Don’t forget, if you want Vancouver to be next year’s World Mun visit:

2010-2011 Arab World Protests

Adam Kingsmith, SFUMUN News, Cairo

The 2010–2011 Arab world protests are an unprecedented series of major uprisings and demonstrations in the Arab countries of Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Algeria, and Jordan, with minor incidents occurring in Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Sudan, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, and Morocco. The protests have been referred to as revolutions. The protests have been the outcome of a host of issues varying from one nation to the other - ranging from rigged elections, kleptocratic and crony-capitalist rule in Tunisia, Egypt, and Yemen, to price rise and corruption in Gulf countries; from determination of protesters to overhaul or uproot the existing system and political hierarchies in Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, to demands for reforms in Jordan and Oman. Experts suggest that this may be the Berlin Wall moment of the 21st century.
